We have verified 5 dongles that will allow you to use the Finch Robot with USB C ports. Click on the links in the attachment to be taken to stores where you can purchase these dongles. Other dongles may also work, but these 5 have been tested and work without issues. Press Next to perform the cleanup. All the items that belong BirdBrain Robot Server which have been left behind will be detected and you will be able to delete them. By removing BirdBrain Robot Server using Advanced Uninstaller PRO, you can be sure that no registry entries, files or folders are left behind on your system.
This page will describe how to set up your computer to program the Finchrobot with Scratch.
Download the BirdBrain Robot Server application for Mac, and drag the app icon into your Applications folder. Then, if runnning Mac OSX 10.9 or later, open your Applications folder in Finder, command-click on the BirdBrainRobot Server, click “Get Info”, and then check the box to disable App Nap.
1.2.1.1. Install Scratch Offline Editor¶
You will need to install the Scratch 2 Offline editor, which can be downloadedfrom the official Scratch downloads page
1.2.1.2. Install BirdBrain Robot Server¶
You will also need to install the BirdBrain Robot server. Here are the instructionsfor Windows and Mac:
- Windows
- Download and run the BirdBrain Robot Server installer for Windows.
- Mac OSX
- Download the BirdBrain Robot Server application for Mac, and drag the app iconinto your Applications folder. Then, if runnning Mac OSX 10.9 or later, open yourApplications folder in Finder, command-click on the BirdBrainRobot Server, click“Get Info”, and then check the box to disable App Nap.
- Linux

1.2.1.3. Start BirdBrain and Scratch¶
Plug in your Finch robot to your computer and launch the BirdBrain Robot Server. BirdBrainshould show that your Finch robot is connected. Click to launch scratch from the BirdBrainRobot Server application.
When Scratch opens, the Finch blocks should be available under the “More Blocks” section ofyour Scratch Editor.

Birdbrain Robot Server
If the Finch blocks are not available under ‘More Blocks’, make sure that you launched theScratch Offline Editor from the button in the BirdBrain Scratch Robot Server application, andmake sure that the Finch robot was connected when you launched Scratch.
If the Finch blocks are still not available, download the BirdBrain scratch blocks andunzip it somewhere (e.g. in your ‘Documents’ or ‘My Documents’ folder). Then open the ScratchOffline Editor. Hold down ‘Shift’ and then click ‘File’ -> ‘Import experimental HTTPextension’.
Browse to the location of the Finch.s2e file in the folder that you unzipped, andselect it. The Finch blocks should now be available under ‘More Blocks’.
You are now ready to start programming your Finch robot in Scratch!

1.2.1.4. How BirdBrain Robot Server works¶
The BirdBrain robot server is only required for programming the Finch robot in Scratchor Snap. Its job is to receive requests from Scratch or Snap and send the correct commandsto the Finch Robot over USB.
